What's my AI stance
2026
I’ve no intention to use AI in 2026 in any aspect - no generated textures, sounds, code, etc.
Firstly, I think that AI is probably more than capable of developing complete games at this point. If there happened to be a game jam which forced the use of AI assets, I might consider entering to investigate the state of the art.
However:
- This is a learning process, it makes no sense to ‘outsource’ it.
- You always need to understand the fundamentals.
- The ability to thinking critical and creatively is a skill, and too easy lost.
Future
I’m not clear on how this view will change over time.
I don’t like the idea of handing over control and you should never stop doing something you enjoy.
Polished games require a mix of diverse skills, team work becomes essential. I can see AI being useful to plug skill gaps provide some placeholder content to be replaced. A sort of better ‘programmer art’ if you will.
